Justin Guitar Workshop UK - With Special Guests!

This is a 5 day workshop running from SUNDAY the 3rd November (meeting in the early evening) until SATURDAY the 9th November (after breakfast). This is a new location for us, and the first time we have held a residential workshop in the UK (I’m sure it won’t be the last!), and the hotel looks great.

The workshop is aimed at Intermediate level guitar players (you should be comfortable with barre chords and able to stay in time when playing rhythm) but advancing beginners will also enjoy it. The class size will be capped at 16 participants, so if you’re interested, email Ian asap (!

We are delighted to say that we will be joined by some very special guests:

  • PETER HONORÉ - Pete is one of life’s great guitar players! Renowned for his Purple Tele and his ThorpyFX Dane pedal, Pete has toured the world with the likes of Tom Jones, Westlife, Il Divo, Atomic Kitten, to name just a few. Pete now manages Andertons TV, the award winning You Tube channel, driving it on to ever more success with Lee ‘The Captain’ Anderton.

  • PETE WHITTARD - Pete has worked as a guitarist, composer, author, journalist and teacher/lecturer. Performing as a contemporary guitarist, he has over 3,000 live performances under his belt, including headline shows at the Royal Albert Hall. Pete has been at the helm of the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, London, for 16 years.

  • ROB HARRIS - Rob’s recording and touring life reads like a who’s who of music. Rob has been a full time member of Jamiroquai since 1999. He has also worked with Gary Numan, Mark Owen, Beverly Knight, Kylie Minogue, Anastasia, Lighthouse Family, Katy Perry, Gabriella Aplin, Will Young, Paloma Faith, Robbie Williams, Kanye West…... phew!

  • MICK TAYLOR & DANIEL STEINHARDT - Daniel is the boss man at The GigRig, and spends his days designing and building exceptional switching systems and pedalboards used by a wealth of world-class players. Mick is former editor-in-chief of Guitarist, Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques magazines. He has spent 20 years as a guitar journalist, commentator and creative professional. Together Mick and Dan produce the critically acclaimed That Pedal Show You Tube Channel.

  • SUSAN BLAIR - Susan is an awesome vocal coach with professional experience spanning 3 continents. Originally from The Netherlands, Susan gained a Masters Degree in contemporary voice and performance. She also studied at Berklee College of Music, USA.

Now based in London, her clients include artists signed to Native Management, Chrysalis, Mercury, Island Records and Sony BMG. She has taught vocals at Kingston University, London, ICMP and BIMM London.

Every day will have a different focus depending on the special guest for that day. I will usually take a 2 hour class on my own and then the special guest will join me for a 2 hour workshop after which you’ll have a further 2 hours to jam with other students or just chill out if your cup is full.

Monday we’ll look at improvising and blues in the morning and then funk interplay with Rob in the afternoon. Tuesday morning we check out the Major Scale and how it works, and when Pete H joins us we’ll get busy with the Major Pentatonic and how to use it in the right (and wrong!) places. Wednesday morning we’re joined by my old vocal coach Susan for some singing techniques and warm-ups and then the afternoon we’ll be exploring songwriting and recording and record a track together. Thursday we’ll have Dan and Mick in for the day so we’ll spend the whole day discussing tone and pedals and how to use them and on Friday you’ll learn how to write out a basic chart and then pair up, write out a song - and then jam it with a house band! It’s going to be awesome!

November 3rd - November 9th 2019. Arrive Sunday 3rd in the afternoon and depart Saturday 9th November after breakfast

Double room ensuite Single Occupancy for the week, including meals* - £ (GBP) 1,188

*Meals (per person) - Price includes breakfast, hot and cold buffet lunch and three course dinner, from Sunday dinner to Saturday breakfast.

The workshop will be held at the Hotel where you will be staying - The Frensham Pond Hotel (Churt, Farnham, Surrey GU10 2QD, England). It’s close to where I live, so I won’t be there for breakfast or dinner - I’ll be on parenting duty at home! But there will be plenty of hang time and I’ll do my best to find one night to have a hang and jam! The pond is big and you can swim in it - approx a mile lap - in November it will probably be too cold for that! But it’s fab for running and walking in the local woods.

The Hotel sits quietly on the edge of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, overlooking Frensham Great Pond. Perched on the Surrey/Hampshire border, the historic market town of Farnham is just 5 miles away (a short 10-minute drive) and it’s got a great guitar store too (Guitar Village).

TRAVEL INFO:   Click here for information on how to get to the Frensham Pond Hotel.
